Description:

The Diocese of Joliet Medical Mission is a not-for-profit, ecumenical ministry sponsored by the Office for Human Dignity, and a member of the Partnership In Mission. The Medical Mission works by first establishing a relationship with the foreign site either under the auspice of the local diocesan bishop or a religious community. Our foreign site partners develop a plan to address local needs in cooperation with the resources available in the Joliet Diocese.

Sucre, Bolivia

Our first mission site was established in Sucre, Bolivia upon the invitation of Archbishop Jesus Perez in 1994. Working in the barrios of Sucre, our medical missionaries offer their talents in general, plastic, orthopedic, oral, and ophthalmologic surgery. In addition, the team is involved with pediatric care, dentistry, cardiology, and general health concerns. In 2000 we opened a new 44 bed hospital to better serve the needs of Sucre.Teams travel to Bolivia each April.
