Clinic Care

In the rural communities where AMOS works, each health promoter is in charge of a community clinic. The health promoters receive training on clinic management topics, such as:

Appropriate diagnosis and treatment of common diseases such as diarrhea, childhood pneumonia, allergies, asthma, and skin infections
Provision and proper dosage of essential medication
Coordination and management of a community clinic

Two days a week, health promoters offer patient care visits to members of the community who need clinical care. When necessary, health promoters make appropriate use of referrals or emergency transport to the nearest MINSA health clinic or hospital.

What is a Delegation?

A delegation is a group of 10 to 20 people that comes to serve alongside one of our urban or rural communities in Nicaragua and our AMOS staff.

Delegations, or Team Service Trips, help support priority community projects like building water filters for families, health clinics, and school buildings, and conducting community health screenings for pregnant moms and children. In addition to their work projects, groups are encouraged to develop relationships with the people of Nicaragua to learn about the culture and to understand the complexities of poverty and discover what we can do together to improve the health of poor and marginalized people. Through continual accompaniment, love, and support from many delegation teams over the years, AMOS’ work has had a greater impact than if we were to try and do this work alone. In fact, the majority of the communities that we work with have become more organized as a result of the delegations program, giving people more knowledge, skills, and passion to address health issues in their communities.

How to Become a Delegation

We would love to be in touch with you about planning your group’s visit and partnership with AMOS. In order to provide you with the best experience possible, our staff and rural community leaders work hard to prepare for all aspects of a group’s visit. We request that you contact us far in advance (a minimum of 6 months before your desired travel dates) to discuss the details, including:

Your group size
Your preferred travel dates, including preference for a summer or a year-round trip
Costs of your stay while in Nicaragua
Fundraising goal for your project costs

We recommend that at least 2 conference/Skype calls be made prior to your arrival. All other communications, however, will be by email. We hope that you will come visit us to learn and serve. Please contact us to start the conversation!
