Description:

Our mission is to improve the health of communities in Honduras.

The Brigade is a 501(c)(3) and USAID PVO Registered organization, founded in 1999 after Hurricane Mitch devastated much of Central America, particularly Honduras. Our initial effort was to provide disaster relief and subsequent efforts focused on providing curative services. Later, the Brigade added programs that provide sustainable community development interventions that improve health.

Remote Village Project

The Brigades Remote Village Project (RVP) is a year-round effort to provide healthcare access in rural villages. These communities are hours away from the nearest hospitals. Our clean water, smokeless stoves and sanitation projects make communities less vulnerable to disease. Our healthcare training projects provide healthcare access to result in sustainable and lasting change. The RVP team meets monthly and regularly sends team members to train and continue our work in Honduras.

Medical Missions

The Brigade sends teams of professionals to Honduras annually in order to provide services unavailable to the poor. The team provides training and support to two local hospitals. At hospitals we perform urological, gynecological, ophthalmological and general surgery. In the field our teams provide vision screenings and provision of eyeglasses, rehabilitation services, public health education, and more. In addition to our medical teams, we have support teams that provide critical logistical assistance to our group.
