Description:
Timmy’s primary care medical trips help provide year–round health access to our adopted communities. Our teams return to partner sites every 2–3 months, maintain detailed records, and ensure patients have access to the quality care they need and deserve.
These short–term efforts are vital to our long–term continuity. Paired with strong, local health partnerships, our medical teams help fulfill the promise we’re made to our communities. Even after our medical teams have gone home, patients have access to important medicines, have contact with a community health worker, receive subsidized surgeries and hospital care, and feel secure in the fact that they can reach a doctor in the event of an emergency.
Empowering Student Volunteers
Our student volunteers are the next generation of global health leaders. And the hands–on experiences they gain on our medical trips play a transformative role in their career paths and stick with them throughout their lives.
In this way, our medical professionals have a chance to serve as both a healthcare provider and a teacher—showing students firsthand what it means to treat a patient rather than a disease. During clinic, Timmy students shadow and scribe for doctors, work in triage, take vitals, and assist in the pharmacy. Many of them are advanced Spanish speakers and help to translate and update patient records. This opportunity to work together is a mutually beneficial experience for both sets of volunteers.
