I have made 5 trips to Honduras as a gynecologist and generalist. We serve a variety of sites, ranging from a clinic in La Entrada to an orphanage to villages that rarely see missions. All of these opportunities are valuable; we work hard for sustainability by referring patients needing follow up or long term care to the clinic. Summit in Honduras has initiated a team of Health Guardians. We have done various types of training for them and support one of the Honduran clinic physicians for their supervision.
we have delivered home water filters to many villages. The incidence of diarrheal illnesses, especially among children, seems to improve. We are looking into cooking stoves that will be culturally acceptable in order to decrease the incidence of asthma and other respiratory illnesses among moms and kids.
