Description:

Refuge International is an organization comprised of dedicated, compassionate volunteers committed to making real change happen in the lives of those who need it most. Through lifesaving medical mission trips, supporting schools and educational programs and vital clean water projects we are turning the tide on poverty for people living in rural Guatemala villages.

Refuge International is entering our 14th year helping the people in some of the most remote areas of Guatemala. The places we go are hard to find on most maps, but we know this is where the need is greatest.
Our mission trip teams are comprised of a diverse mix of physicians, nurses, students, educators, technicians and even those with no medical background that provide equally important administrative and assistant duties in the clinics. In Guatemala, Refuge International makes every effort to adhere to the standards of professional care practiced in the United States.
In just 7 days (the average length of our trips), our teams are able to provide a wide range of services, including:
Vital surgeries
Health care consultations
Vision exams
OB/GYN care
Child wellness exams
Distribution of over-the-counter and prescription medications
Training for local providers
Equipment servicing
Water well digging and construction
Delivery of much needed supplies (medical, technical and educational)
The most common surgeries performed at our clinics are hernia repairs, hysterectomies and gallbladder removals.
Much can be accomplished in the short time we have on the ground.
