Since building its clinic in the jungle on the Río Dulce, Ak' Tenamit's health program has grown exponentially. We are the primary healthcare provider for almost 10,000 people.
We visit 23 remote villages every three months. We offer emergency medical services 24/7/365.

Ak’ Tenamit’s project site in Guatemala counts on international professional volunteers to help accomplish its mission. The number of volunteers working at the project varies from time to time, but a reasonable estimate is 8 volunteers involved at various levels.

Ak’ Tenamit prefers a minimum commitment of six months, or three months as a clinic volunteer, and a working knowledge of Spanish. Volunteers receive board (a small room in the volunteer “galera”) and food (three meals a day, seven days a week consisting in rice, beans and tortillas), but are responsible for their travel to and from Guatemala and for any personal expenses.
Ak’ Tenamit is currently looking for volunteers to fill the following positions:

Doctor/Nurse: Attend patients in the primary care clinic and participate in medical excursions to remote indigenous villages to provide consultations. Candidates must have completed their education (medical/nursing license) and have at least two years of working experience in the field. A minimum 3 month commitment and a moderate to high-level of Spanish fluency are required.

Dentist: Attend patients in our floating dental clinic and participate in medical excursions to remote indigenous villages to provide consultations. Candidates must have completed their education (dental license) and have at least two years of working experience in the field. A minimum 3 month commitment is required and a moderate to high-level of Spanish fluency are required.
